Cometh the Great Pumpkin...

Although party-goers at the Encinal Yacht Club didn't have to contend with pepper-spray from local law enforcement officials, they certainly had as much fun as all the students in Madison, Wisconsin. I wonder how many of the club's ghouls and goblins will find their way to the Castro tonight.

Fogged out...

This past weekend we'd planned a cruise up to Drake's Bay and Bodega Bay on Spindrift with our friend Steve Katzaroff. The best laid plans often go awry because of things you cannot control, and our's were lost amidst pea-soup fog on the bay and all along the coast. We made it over to Tiburon, our jumping off point for Drake's Bay, but when the fog kept us in port until noon, we punted and headed up to Vallejo for a night. More photos

The whole sordid story is laid out in Spindrift's general log.

New boat launch...

We launched a new tender for Dog Days this Saturday - Pup. Small boat builder, John Tuma, started work on it in June, after we agreed on the design. She's a gem and will afford many pleasant afternoons drifting about the marina and serving Dog Days at anchor.

EYC blues jam...

The club hosted a blues jam by members on Saturday night. If you snoozed, you missed out. Great fun was had by everyone.

The best obituary ever...

From The Chicago Tribune, October 10, 2005:

Theodore Roosevelt Heller, 88, loving father of Charles (Joann) Heller; dear brother of the late Sonya (the late Jack) Steinberg. Ted was discharged from the U.S. Army during WWII due to service related injuries, and then forced his way back into the Illinois National Guard insisting no one tells him when to serve his country. Graveside services Tuesday 11 a.m. at Waldheim Jewish Cemetery (Ziditshover section), 1700 S. Harlem Ave., Chicago. In lieu of flowers, please send acerbic letters to Republicans.

Thanks to Shakespeare's Sister for this.

San Rafael Cruise...

This weekend we had a wonderful cruise with our Encinal Yacht Club buddies to the San Rafael Yacht Club on Dog Days, our Islander Bahama 28. On the way back on Sunday, we timed it so we could drift across the bay under only the mainsail and watch the Blue Angels perform for fleet week. I know, it's a hackneyed expression, but what a wonderful weekend!
